What does "licensed in the Netherlands" mean?

In the Netherlands, the licence isn't split by product: there's one licence, and it lists the categories it covers. A holder might be licensed for online casino, horse racing and sports betting. Or for just one of those. What gives the right to offer sports betting is the "Online sportweddenschap" entry. Simply holding a Dutch licence doesn't.

So spotting an operator in the Dutch register doesn't tell you much on its own. It can be fully in order there and still have no right at all to take sports bets.

Brands and sites: what the register actually declares

The Dutch register publishes the holder, its brands and the licensed sites. Few European registers go that far. It means you can check directly. The licence covers the declared domains, and only those. A sister site run by the same group but missing from the register isn't covered.

That level of detail is what I value most here. When a register stops at the company name, you're left guessing which site belongs to whom. Here there's no guessing.

Some holders run several sites under one licence, sometimes with one brand for casino and another for betting. The list on this page only keeps what relates to sports betting.

Why doesn't OddScore track every licensed bookmaker?

The regulatory list and OddScore's coverage answer two different questions. The Ksa says which holders are allowed to offer online sports betting in the Netherlands. OddScore says which operators are currently plugged into its odds comparison.

So a bookmaker can be fully licensed and still not be tracked by OddScore. It works the other way too. The "Tracked by OddScore" badge never counts as a check with the regulator. It only means the platform compares some of that operator's odds.

How can I check a site myself?

No third-party list replaces the official register. To check a licence:

1. Open the Kansspelautoriteit's public register.
2. Search for the brand, then open the holder's record.
3. Look for "Online sportweddenschap" among the covered categories.
4. Make sure the site you're on is one of the declared sites.
5. Check the validity period. A licence has an end date.

A Ksa licence, like any other, says nothing about the risks that are still there once you've placed a bet. Those are covered in the risks of sports betting.

Bonuses and free bets: what the rules say

In the Netherlands, bonuses are legal today but restricted, and on 12 June 2026 the government announced a full ban on online bonuses. The current limits sit in article 2a of the Decree on recruitment, advertising and addiction prevention (Bwrvk). No bonus during play. No bonus for a set period after an intervention with the player. Timing and type can't depend on how an individual plays. Terms have to be clear and expressly accepted. And the player must be able to opt out at any time.

Untargeted advertising for online gambling has been banned since 1 July 2023.

The June 2026 announcement covers bonuses like free stakes when you open an account, along with advertising. It still has to become a bill. When we checked, no bill and no date had been published.

Why does the list change?

A regulatory list is never final. The Ksa issues new licences and renews others when they expire. It records brands being added or removed. It can also suspend or withdraw an authorisation. On top of that, the licences granted when the market opened expire in waves, so renewals come in clusters. That's why you should always read the last-checked date together with the list.
