What does "licensed in the Netherlands" mean?
In the Netherlands the licence is not split by product: there is one licence, and it lists the categories it covers. One holder may thus be licensed for online casino, horse racing and sports betting, or for only one of them. What grants the right to offer sports betting is the "Online sportweddenschap" entry, not the fact of holding a Dutch licence in general.
The practical consequence matters to a bettor: seeing an operator in the Dutch register is not enough. An operator can be entirely in order there while having no right at all to offer sports betting.
Brands and sites: what the register actually declares
The Dutch register publishes the holder, its brands and the licensed sites. That is more precise than most European registers, and it allows a direct check: the licence covers the declared domains, and only those. A neighbouring site run by the same group but absent from the register is not covered.
Some holders run several sites under one licence, sometimes with separate brands for casino and for betting. The list above only carries what falls within this page's sports betting scope.
Why are some licensed bookmakers not tracked by OddScore?
The regulatory list and OddScore's coverage answer two different questions. The Ksa says which holders are authorised to offer online sports betting in the Netherlands. OddScore says which operators are currently integrated into its odds comparison system.
A bookmaker can therefore be legally licensed without being tracked by OddScore. Conversely, the "Tracked by OddScore" badge never replaces a check with the regulator: it only means some of the operator's odds are compared by the platform.
How can I check a site myself?
No third-party list replaces the official register. To check a licence yourself:
- Open the Kansspelautoriteit's public register.
- Search for the brand, then open the holder's record.
- Check that the covered categories mention "Online sportweddenschap".
- Check that the site you are visiting is among the declared sites.
- Check the stated validity period: a licence has an end date.
A Ksa licence, like any other, says nothing about the risks that remain once a bet is placed — those are covered in the risks of sports betting.
Why does the list change?
A regulatory list is never final. The Ksa issues new licences, renews others at expiry, records the addition or removal of a brand, and can suspend or withdraw an authorisation. The licences granted when the market opened also expire in waves, which produces clustered rounds of renewal. That is why the last-verified date should always be read together with the list.
Responsible gambling — a licence does not remove the risk. Sports betting carries a risk of financial loss. A regulatory licence does not make gambling risk-free. What is a remote gambling licence?
It is the authorisation issued by the Kansspelautoriteit since the Dutch remote gambling act came into force. There is one per holder, and it lists the categories it covers: online casino, horse racing, sports betting. A holder can therefore be licensed for casino without being licensed for betting.
How do I check whether a betting site is licensed in the Netherlands?
Search for the brand or domain in the Ksa's public register, then check two things: that the licence does cover the "Online sportweddenschap" category, and that the site you are on is the one declared in the register.
Why do some holders show no brand at all?
Because the licence exists but no active brand or site is declared in the register. Those licences are not carried into the list above: there would be nothing verifiable to display.
What is Cruks?
It is the Dutch central self-exclusion register. Every licensed operator must check that a player is not listed in it before allowing play. It is an obligation specific to the Dutch framework, separate from the licensing question.
Why does the OddScore list differ from the official register?
The official register lists licensed holders. OddScore only tracks some of them to compare their odds. A bookmaker can be licensed without being tracked by OddScore.
