Switzerland doesn't have an online bookmaker market. Sports betting there counts as large-scale gambling, and it's reserved for two lottery companies that split the country. Swisslos (Sporttip brand) covers German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino. The Loterie Romande (Jouez Sport brand) covers the French-speaking cantons. Any other betting site you can reach from Switzerland operates without authorisation and appears on the Gespa's blocking lists.

What does "licensed in Switzerland" actually mean?
In Switzerland, online sports betting is large-scale gambling, and it isn't open to competition. The Gespa, the intercantonal supervisory authority, hands out the authorisation. It goes to lottery operators rather than commercial bookmakers. Only two companies hold one, each on its own territory. Swisslos covers German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino. The Loterie Romande covers the French-speaking cantons.
So this page isn't showing you a slice of a bigger market. It's the whole market. Two entries is simply what the Swiss model produces, and the list is complete.
Why so few authorised offers?
The regulator deliberately limited how far the sports betting offer can go, to cut the risk of competition manipulation. That means a narrower range of events and markets than in an open market. In Britain or Italy, dozens of operators compete with each other.
There's also a separate category: local sports betting. The cantonal authorities authorise and supervise it. It can only be offered at the venue of the event itself. Horse racing is the most widespread form. This page is about the online offer, so it's not covered here.
What about foreign betting sites?
A licence issued abroad doesn't give anyone the right to offer sports betting in Switzerland. Offers you can reach from Switzerland without Swiss authorisation are treated as illegal. The Gespa publishes updated access-blocking lists, and internet service providers have to apply them.
What does that mean for you? A site that's well known and properly regulated elsewhere in Europe can be flat-out unlawful on the Swiss side. And nothing on its interface will tell you.
Why doesn't OddScore track these operators?
The regulatory list and OddScore's coverage answer two different questions. The Gespa tells you who's allowed to offer sports betting in Switzerland. OddScore tells you which operators are currently plugged into its odds comparison.
So an operator can be fully authorised without being tracked by OddScore. And the other way round, the "Tracked by OddScore" badge never replaces checking with the regulator. It only means the platform compares some of that operator's odds. I'm firm about keeping those two ideas apart on our country pages. Blurring "we track it" and "it's legal" would be the quickest way to mislead you.
Bonuses and free bets: what the law says
In Switzerland, free games and free game credits need the prior authorisation of the competent enforcement authority. That's Article 75(2) of the Federal Act on Gambling. For sports betting, which counts as a large-scale game, that authority is the Gespa. Article 75(1) also stops operators from granting loans or advances to players.
Article 74 covers advertising. It can't be excessive or misleading. It can't target minors or people excluded from gambling. And it can't promote games that aren't authorised in Switzerland.

Why can the list change?
Even a closed market doesn't stand still. An authorisation can be renewed, have its scope changed, or extend to new brands and new distribution channels. The territorial split between the two operators can change too, by intercantonal decision. That's why you should always read the last-verified date alongside the list.
Being one of only two licensed operators says nothing about the risks that remain once a bet is placed. Those are covered separately in the risks of sports betting.

Why are there only two operators on the list?
Because the market is closed. In Switzerland, online sports betting is large-scale gambling. Running it is reserved for the two authorised lottery companies, each on its own patch. Nobody's missing.
Can I bet on a foreign site from Switzerland?
A site without Swiss authorisation isn't legally allowed to offer sports betting in Switzerland, whatever licence it holds elsewhere. The Gespa publishes and updates access-blocking lists aimed at those offers.
What's the difference between Sporttip and Jouez Sport?
They're the sports betting brands of the two authorised operators. Swisslos runs Sporttip in German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino. The Loterie Romande runs Jouez Sport in the French-speaking cantons. They don't compete: each has its own territory.
What's local sports betting?
