There is no federal license for sports betting in the United States: since 2018, each state decides whether to allow online sports betting, and who may offer it. A brand authorized in New Jersey is not automatically authorized in a state whose regulator has not licensed it, and several states do not allow online sports betting at all. The "Authorized regions" column of the table shows, brand by brand, the states whose official list mentions it. Offshore sites without a state license, sweepstakes sites, prediction markets and fantasy sports contests are not in the list.

What does "authorized in the United States" mean?
In the United States, there is no national authorization: authorization is granted state by state. Since 2018, the Supreme Court has left each state free to allow sports betting or not. An operator is therefore "authorized" in one or more specific states, never "in the United States" as a whole.
That is why the table above adds an Authorized regions column. Read it before the brand: a sportsbook that is fully legal in New Jersey has no right to accept a bet from a player located in a state that has not authorized it.
What the list deliberately leaves out
The list includes only holders of a state sports betting license. Several types of very visible sites are not in it, and should not be read as "authorized" simply because they are well known:
- offshore sites without a state license, reachable from the United States but outside the states' legal framework, which several regulators have sanctioned;
- sweepstakes and "social sportsbook" sites, which rely on a different mechanism from licensed real-money betting;
- prediction markets, subject to a separate federal regime (CFTC);
- fantasy sports contests, which fall under a contest license, not a sports betting one.
Which states are covered?
The list aggregates the states for which an official source could be read. It does not cover Nevada, West Virginia and Arkansas, for lack of an official list of brands that can be consulted. Several states allow only retail betting, or have not launched an online offer: they have no entry.
For some states, the official list records licenses granted without proving that a brand has actually launched its offer. The column therefore flags the states where the brand appears on the regulator's list: it does not guarantee a launch in each one.
Why are some brands tracked by OddScore?
The regulatory list and OddScore's coverage answer two different questions. State regulators say who is authorized to offer sports betting. OddScore says which sportsbooks are integrated into its odds comparison system.
In the United States, several major authorized brands are also tracked by OddScore: the "Tracked by OddScore" badge flags this in the table. It never replaces checking with your state's regulator, and is neither a ranking nor a recommendation.
What if the reader is outside the United States?
A US authorization is not an authorization in your country. If you are reading this page from France, Europe or another country, these brands do not, by virtue of their US state license alone, have the right to offer you bets. The warning displayed above the table says so, in the language of the page.
How can you check for yourself that a sportsbook is authorized in your state?
No third-party list replaces the official register. To check an authorization yourself:
- Identify the state where you are located at the time of the bet.
- Open the official list of that state's regulator (gaming commission, state lottery or gaming enforcement division).
- Search for the brand or the license holder concerned.
- Check that the license covers online or mobile sports betting, and not only retail betting.
- Check that the domain or app used matches the one declared.
This approach applies to any country: see the full verification process. An authorization also says nothing about the risks specific to sports betting, which remain the same whichever operator you choose.
Responsible gambling — an authorization does not remove the risk. Sports betting carries a risk of financial loss. A regulatory license does not make gambling risk-free. Set a budget, do not chase your losses, and use the available limit-setting or self-exclusion tools. Learn more about responsible gambling.

Is online sports betting legal in the United States?
It depends on the state. Since the Supreme Court's 2018 decision (Murphy v. NCAA), each state decides whether to allow sports betting and in what form. Some allow mobile apps, others only retail locations, others nothing at all.
Why does the "Authorized regions" column matter?
Because a brand may only accept bets in the states where it is authorized. The codes in the column are the official postal abbreviations (NJ, PA, NY, etc.) of the states whose official list mentions the brand.
Why are some very well-known sites not in the list?
Because the list includes only holders of a state sports betting license. Offshore sites without a state license, sweepstakes or "social sportsbook" sites, prediction markets (regulated at the federal level by the CFTC) and fantasy sports contests fall under other regimes and are not presented as authorized sportsbooks.
Are all states covered?
No. The list relies on the states for which an official source could be read. Nevada, West Virginia and Arkansas are not covered for lack of an official list that can be consulted, and several states have only retail betting or have not launched an online offer.
How does OddScore flag the brands it tracks?
When a brand in the list is also tracked by OddScore to compare its odds, the table shows the "Tracked by OddScore" badge. This badge is neither a recommendation nor a regulatory approval.
Sources & method
This page is based on the official lists published by the state sports betting regulators (gaming commissions, state lotteries, gaming enforcement divisions). No federal register exists: the list aggregates the states for which an official source could be read. The last-verified date shown in the box is authoritative; in case of a recent change, the state's official source remains the reference.
- Start from the official lists of the state regulators, never from OddScore's technical coverage.
- Keep only holders of a state license or authorization for online or mobile sports betting.
- Aggregate the states by brand, and exclude offshore sites, sweepstakes, prediction markets and fantasy sports contests.
