Licensed bookmakers in Portugal according to the SRIJ

What does "licensed in Portugal" mean?

In Portugal, only entities holding a licence from the Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ) can offer online sports betting. The SRIJ sits within Turismo de Portugal. It regulates the market, issues licences and publishes the list of licensed entities.

The list above only covers apostas desportivas à cota, which is fixed-odds sports betting. An entity licensed just for online casino or poker won't be on it. And a licence tells you one thing: the operator is legally allowed to offer the activity it covers. It doesn't promise the best odds, a dispute-free experience or profitable bets.

Licence holder and brand: who's who?

The SRIJ register shows the legal name of the licensed entity, not just the brand name everyone knows. A single entity can run one brand or several. That's why the table above has two columns: the brand or site, then the licence holder.

A licence from another country doesn't stand in for a Portuguese one. To offer online apostas desportivas à cota in Portugal, an entity needs the matching SRIJ licence. That licence is tied to a declared domain.

Suspended licence: still active?

No. The SRIJ register may say that an entity has "temporariamente suspensa a atividade a pedido da entidade exploradora". While the suspension lasts, the activity isn't running. Those entities don't appear in the main list of licensed operators above.

This is the status I see misread most often. The brand still exists and its entity is still in the register, yet it can't operate right now. A suspension can also be lifted later. That's why the last verification date matters so much.

Why doesn't OddScore track every licensed bookmaker?

The regulatory list and OddScore's coverage answer two different questions. The SRIJ says which entities may offer sports betting in Portugal. OddScore says which operators are currently built into its odds comparison.

So a bookmaker can be licensed without being tracked by OddScore. The other way round, the "Tracked by OddScore" badge never counts as a check with the regulator. It just means the platform compares some of that operator's odds.

How do you check a bookmaker's licence yourself?

No third-party list replaces the official register. This one included. To check a licence:

1. Open the SRIJ register of entidades licenciadas.
2. Search for the brand, the domain or the entity.
3. Make sure the licence is active, not suspended.
4. Make sure it covers online apostas desportivas à cota.
5. Make sure the site's domain matches the officially declared one.

Bonuses and free bets: the Portuguese rules

In Portugal, bonuses are legal. The law requires each licensed operator to have a bonus policy, and it sets no cap. That's article 26(1)(e) of Decree-Law 66/2015, the legal regime for online gambling and betting. It obliges operators to set out how they award bonuses to players.

Gambling ads fall under article 21 of the Advertising Code, as amended by the same decree-law. They can't play on the idea of easy winnings or encourage excessive play. They can't be aimed at minors either.
