What does "licensed in Portugal" mean?
In Portugal, only entities holding a licence issued by the Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ) may offer online sports betting. The SRIJ, part of Turismo de Portugal, regulates the market, issues licences and publishes the list of licensed entities.
The list shown above covers apostas desportivas à cota (fixed-odds sports betting) only. An entity licensed solely for online casino or poker does not appear there. A licence confirms that the operator may legally offer the activity it covers: it does not guarantee the best odds, the absence of disputes, or the profitability of bets.
Licence holder and brand: what is the difference?
The SRIJ register shows the legal name of the entity holding the licence, not just the commercial name known to the public. A single entity may operate one or more brands. This is why the table above shows both the brand or site, and the licence holder.
A licence issued in another country does not replace the Portuguese licence: to offer online apostas desportivas à cota in Portugal, an entity must hold the corresponding SRIJ licence, associated with a declared domain.
Is a suspended licence still active?
No. The SRIJ register may indicate that an entity has "temporariamente suspensa a atividade a pedido da entidade exploradora". During this suspension, the activity is not operated. These entities do not appear in the main list of currently licensed operators above: a suspended licence must not be read as an active authorisation. A suspension may be lifted later, which makes the last verification date essential.
Why are some licensed bookmakers not tracked by OddScore?
The regulatory list and OddScore's coverage answer two different questions. The SRIJ says which entities are licensed to offer sports betting in Portugal. OddScore says which operators are currently integrated into its odds comparison system.
A bookmaker can therefore be legally licensed without being tracked by OddScore. Conversely, the "Tracked by OddScore" badge never replaces a check with the regulator: it only signals that some of the operator's odds are compared by the platform.
How can you check for yourself that a bookmaker is licensed?
No third-party list replaces the official register. To verify a licence yourself:
- Open the SRIJ register of entidades licenciadas.
- Search for the brand, domain or entity concerned.
- Check that the licence is active (and not suspended).
- Check that the licence covers online apostas desportivas à cota.
- Check that the domain used matches the officially declared domain.
