What does "licensed in Spain" mean?
In Spain, only operators holding the licences issued by the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) may offer online sports betting. The DGOJ, attached to the Ministry of Finance, regulates the national online gambling market, issues licences and publishes the register of licensed operators.
The list shown above covers fixed-odds sports betting only. An operator licensed solely for online casino, bingo or poker does not appear there. A licence confirms that the operator may legally offer the activity it covers: it guarantees neither the best odds, nor the absence of disputes, nor the profitability of bets.
General licence and singular licence
The Spanish model distinguishes two levels of authorisation. The DGOJ first issues a general licence per game family — for example the "apuestas" (betting) family — then a singular licence per specific modality within that family.
For betting, the singular modalities notably include contrepartie (fixed-odds), pool betting, exchange betting, and sports and horse-race betting. For fixed-odds sports betting, the relevant modality is the singular licence "Apuestas Deportivas de Contrapartida". The register displays the legal name of the holding entity, which may differ from the trade name known to the public and may run one or more .es domains. A licence issued in another country does not replace the Spanish licence.
Why are some licensed bookmakers not tracked by OddScore?
The regulatory list and OddScore's coverage answer two different questions. The DGOJ indicates which operators are authorised to offer sports betting in Spain. OddScore indicates which operators are currently integrated into its odds comparison system.
A bookmaker can therefore be legally licensed without being tracked by OddScore. Conversely, the "Tracked by OddScore" badge never replaces verification with the regulator: it only signals that some of the operator's odds are compared by the platform.
How can you check for yourself that a bookmaker is licensed?
No third-party list replaces the official register. To check an authorisation yourself:
- Open the DGOJ register of operadores con licencia.
- Search for the operator, brand or domain concerned.
- Check that the operator holds the singular fixed-odds sports betting licence.
- Check that the domain used matches the officially declared domain.
- Check that the licence is active and not revoked.
